Recently commissioned for a meticulously curated lateral apartment in Mayfair, West London, our U-Base Side Table was designed to act as a standalone piece of functional art. Crafted in our Elsenham workshop, this side table proves that compact furniture can deliver a profound visual impact when underpinned by true craftsmanship.

02 · The design

The Design: A Study in Material Contrast

The defining characteristic of the U-Base Side Table is its bold, graphic silhouette. We designed this piece to bridge the gap between contemporary sculptural art and time-honored furniture making.

The Sculptural U-Shaped Base:

Moving away from traditional four-legged designs or standard pedestals, the table rests on a striking, geometric U-shaped base. This daring curve creates a sense of negative space, allowing natural light to flow through the piece and ensuring it never feels heavy or blocky in a refined living room.

Contrasting Textures:

The genius of this design lies in the juxtaposition of materials. We contrast warm, natural timber accents embedded within the uprights against sleek, dark-painted hardwood. This dual-tone approach gives the table a highly contemporary, graphic quality.

Parquet-Laid Oak Top:

The surface of the table pays homage to classic architectural detailing. Featuring a meticulously parquet-laid oak top, it provides a highly tactile, durable, and visually intricate surface for resting your morning coffee or displaying a favored book.

Rooted in Traditional Joinery

While the silhouette is unabashedly modern, the engineering behind it is firmly rooted in traditional craftsmanship. Creating a curved, load-bearing U-shape that remains perfectly stable on a plush Mayfair rug or a polished hardwood floor requires exacting standards of solid construction.

Manufactured in our dedicated workshop, every component is constructed with the utmost care. We utilize premium solid timbers and moisture-resistant core materials to ensure the structural integrity of the piece is never compromised. The painted hardwood sections are finished using our specialized, eco-friendly spray applications, ensuring a robust coating that resists the scratches and scuffs of daily life.
